Job Description:


Part-time Human Resources Director

Worcester Academy is a co-education day and boarding school for 600 students in grades 6-12 and postgraduates. Our urban setting, diverse community, and challenging curriculum provide students with a solid, real-world education.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and in collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team, the Human Resources Director will design, implement, and manage strategy, policies, and procedures that support the Academy’s employees, and foster its mission. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise and success as a hands-on human resources professional in relationship management among employees and colleagues, management of employment candidates and administrative vendors, and implementing and managing the profession’s current best practices. This is a 30 hour a week position which could become full-time at some future date.


Experience and Skills:


  • 10 years of progressively responsible human resources experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred, as is a PHR or SPHR designation
  • The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a well-developed collaborative work style and an aptitude for qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage change
  • Creativity and initiative; excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels of the school community
  • The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert, demonstrating current and vast knowledge of regulations, applicable laws, trends, best practices and new developments in field
  • Paylocity and Excel expertise a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly and regularly adjust strategy based on the Academy’s needs
  • Must be an independent and strategic thinker capable of understanding the full scope of projects while seeing individual tasks through to completion
  • Must be project oriented, able to handle several tasks simultaneously, possessing an ability to prioritize multiple tasks under pressure while managing deadlines
  • A strong commitment to education
  • A positive outlook, and a sense of humor
  • A high level of integrity and an extraordinary work ethic
  • The ability to pass a background check
